Hagar
Good Afternoon All,
The woman that we will concentrate on this week is Hagar. Hagar story is one that can apply to even today's time. Hagar was the Egyptian maid servant of Sarai. Sarai then gave Hagar to her husband to sleep with to have a child on her behalf. Hagar was then pregnant by Abram and then was kicked out by her master Sarai. Then when she ran away from Sara and met an angel of the LORD. The angle of the LORD then gave her a promise regarding her son. She was also told the name of her son which was Ishmael. Hagar then returned back to Sarai and had her son. Sarah then gave birth to her son Isacc. Once Isaac was born Hagar and her son was kicked out by Sarah. Even though they were kicked out God was with Ishmael even as he grew. Hagar even found a wife for her son. (Genesis 16 & Genesis 21). Please read both chapters for more in depth information. So you can get a better understanding as well as the full story of Hagar.
Takeaway/Moments:
1. Hagar was not given choice if she wanted to have a baby by Abram or not. There could be certain circumstances or situations for a women to become pregnant by a man.
2. Hagar was then mistreated by the Sarai and left and then came back. There have been women who may have gotten pregnant by a married man. Then once it is made know to that man. The man's wife will want nothing to do with him or want anything to do with the child. Some may take it out on the child. then demand that child be no where near her or in that home. Then they may try to prevent the relationship between that child and the father.
3. Hagar son was no longer the only child by Abram. Her child was no longer preferred once Sarah child was born. Once a child is born or if there is already a child to that married couple. More than likely the wife is not going to want that other child around her child or children. So that would cause a huge shift rift between the children and the father. The reason being is because the wife is going to make the father choose between the children that he has had with the wife or the one outside the marriage.
Hagar was a single mom not by choice and her son didn't have a father for the later part of his life. He had another son. Personally all of this hurt and pain could have simply been avoided if Abram did not sleep with Hagar in the first place. No matter who gave the idea to him or put the idea in his head. He should have said no. If he had said no Ishmael would not have been born and this whole situation would have been avoided. Since this has happened Hagar has to deal with a situation she did not put herself in alone. Now there are some women that get pregnant by married men and do not know it. Then there are women who are aware of the man being married and still gets pregnant by the man then child is the one who suffers. Reason being is because the man is more than likely not leave his wife to be with that woman and have a family with her. He already has a family and he still stepped out. So now the woman is a single mom and has to deal with everything that comes with being a single mom. It is not easy to be a single parent for whatever reason. Hagar story could be seen as one of pain. The only saving grace that Hagar had was the promise that God gave her. God fulfill that promise that he gave to Hagar. Now her situation was not ideal or one that anyone would have chosen. Even though that situation was not ideal God still saw her and was there for her. Even though her getting pregnant was not a part of the plan. The plan was always for Isacc and never Ishmael. Ishmael was thrown into the situation. Even though Ishmael was not in the plan God still had a plan. In the story of Hagar was when we first see God being called El ROI the God who sees. The reason being is because he saw the situation that Hagar was in and he still gave her a blessing that she could hold on to. If there is anything to takeaway is that when we find ourselves in a situation that we did not plan for whatever reason. God still sees us and HE can still give us a promise/blessing that we can hold on to. We can hold on to it because we know that GOD will fulfill everyone of his promise that he makes. We just need to trust him and rely on him.
Sincerely,
SSS
