Sarah

Hey,

The second woman of the bible we are going to talk about is Sarai/Sarah. Sarai was Sarah's name before her name was changed. We are first introduced to Sara as the wife of Abram, who was barren and both of them were making their way to Cannan (Genesis 11:29-31). The next time we read about Sarai is when her husband Abram asks her to say that she is his sister and not his wife less he would be killed because of her beauty (Genesis 12:12-13). Then once they were in Egypt the Pharoah took her and placed her in his house. As a result of this the LORD plagued Pharoah's house. Sarai was then returned to her husband Abram and they went their way (Genesis 12:17-20). The next time we read about Sarai was when she was telling her husband to sleep with her maid servant Hagar. The reason being is that she wanted to give her husband a child. Instead of waiting and trusting God she took the matter into her own hands with Hagar. Hagar then gave birth to a little boy named Ishmael. then when the reality of what she done she changed her countenances towards Hagar (Genesis 16). Sarai is then in the next chapter brought up in a conversation between Abram and God. God tells Abram that he is changing his name from Abram to Abraham. his wife Sarai to Sarah and next year she would give birth to a son named Isaac (Genesis 17). Sarah is brought again in (Genesis 18) when she laughed at God when he told her that she would give birth to a son and then she lied and said that she didn't. Abraham and Sarah then travel to Gerar when Abraham asks Sarah to lie again and tell the people that she is his sister. Then Sarah was taken in to the home of Abimelech. God then visited Abimelech in a dream and tells him to return Sarah to Abraham before anything could happen. Sarah was then returned to her husband (Genesis 20). Sarah finally gives birth to her son Isaac. After she gives birth to her son Isaac and he is weaned. She notices that Ishmael is mocking. Then demands that Abrahm get rid of Hagar and her son Ishmael and then leave. Sarah then dies in Kirjatharba (Genesis 23).

Takeaways:

1. From looking at the story of Sarah the thing that stood one thing that stood out to me was the fact that she was willing to lie for her husband in order to protect him. There are a lot of women who are willing to lie to protect their man. it is done out of love and not wanting anything to happen to him.

2. The second thing that stood out to me was how impatient she was to wait on God. She decided that if she could not have a child. then she would make her maid servant have a child in her stead. Then like so many of us we don't realize the severity of a situation that we put ourselves in until it is too late. How many times did we bring unnecessary problems or troubles on ourselves. Problems that could have been avoided if we had just waited. I could think of a couples of times in my life in which I can look back and see where I should have waited and not rushing into something. When I was impatient, rushed or tried to do something that was not meant for me it turned into an even bigger mess. It is always better to trust and wait on God timing instead of trying to move outside of the will of GOD.

3.  The third thing that I noticed was that we are not told much of her parenting style with Isaac. From reading the way she dealt with Ishmael after his mocking. It could be assumed that she was very protective over her son Isaac. This is something that every woman can relate to. To being protective over their child or children and making sure that no one is messing with them.  A mother will always fight for her child to be safe and protected.

Sarah in the end is like any woman of today's time. Women in today's time have lied for their man they have even done worse for their man. They have done those things in the name of love. A lot of us have gotten in to trouble because we have moved outside the will of God. It was all because we were impatient and tried to hurry God up or beat him to the punch. It will end badly for us.

Have a great day!
